Gear inch and Distance calculator

For those of you familiar with the singlespeed thing, the term gear inches has become increasingly popular. Gear inches are a way to measure a bike's final drive ratio based on actual tire diameter and chainring/cog selections.

Use the calculator below to experiment with different gear ratios to attain the higher or lower gearing you are looking for. It is especially helpful in finding what gear combos to run when upgrading to any of the newer huge volume tires available.

* A lower number of Gear inches equates to a final drive that is easier to pedal but less distance moved per pedal revolution. Conversely, the higher number makes a faster singlespeed that moves further for each pedal revolution, but will be more difficult to climb steep inclines.
